2017-2018 Meeting Schedule
Except for December and May, meetings will be held at the Twin Rivers Arts Center, 523 South 2nd St., in downtown Mankato. Coffee and refreshments are served at 8:30 AM, the business meeting starts at 9:00 AM, and the program runs from 9:30-11:00 a.m.

Taming Tricky Teens
Attitudes! Emotions! Lack of motivation! Teenagers can be challenging to teach. Come and hear Camille Buddecke, a nationally certified teacher of music with over 35 years of teaching experience, as she shares ways that we can connect with and help our teenage students during this trying time of life. Camille has served as vice president of piano contests for MMTA and is currently the MMTA honors concert chair. She teaches almost 40 students a week at her studio in Eagan MN, plays both piano and organ at church, and does presentations for local piano teacher groups.

Pianist and DMA Student
Allison is currently working on her doctoral degree in piano performance with Lydia Artymiw at the University of Minnesota. She received her MM degree from Rice University and BM degree from Oberlin Conservatory. Allison has won several piano competitions and most recently won 2nd place in the 2016 Midwest International Piano Competition. Join us in welcoming this up-and-coming pianist!

Why Johnny and Suzy Can't Read Music (very well)
Get expert advice on teaching music reading from Rebekah Richards, an independent piano teacher in St. Paul and the director of the Piano Lab School Program at Gustavus Adolphus College. Rebekah is currently the chair of the MMTA Theory Development Committee and the director of the State Theory Program. Her years of teaching experience and research will give us helpful insights into teaching children to read music.

Dr. David Viscoli
A Journey Through Latin American Piano Music
Dr. Viscoli the current Professor of Piano and Distinguished Faculty Scholar at Minnesota State University-Mankato, has performed as a soloist and chamber musician in the United States, Canada, Europe, Central America and Asia. He has performed at major universities, music academies, and summer music festivals. He serves as a national and international adjudicator, performs on radio and TV broadcasts, and records on the Eroica label. Bring a friend to join us as we enjoy this amazing pianist from our own south central Minnesota!

We have all used Melody Bober's compositions for our students. In this special presentation we have the unique opportunity to meet Melody and hear her speak on fun activities for our summertime students. From Moorhead MN, Melody Bober conducts ensembles, teaches music at an elementary school, teaches private piano lessons, plays piano at church, and performs as an accompanist and soloist.
