Except for December, meetings will be held at the Twin Rivers Arts Center, 523 South 2nd St., in downtown Mankato. Coffee and refreshments are served at 8:30 AM, the business meeting starts at 9:00 AM, and the program runs from 9:30-11:00 a.m.

Janet Horvath

Playing (Less) Hurt:

Canada native Janet Horvath joined the Minnesota Orchestra in 1980 as Associate Principal Cello.  She received a bachelor's degree from the University of Toronto and a master's degree from Indiana University.  Her book, Playing (less) Hurt - an Injury Prevention Guide for Musicians, has garnered critical acclaim and to date has sold more than 12,000 copies.  In 2009 it won the gold medal in the health category of the Independent Publishers Book Awards.  A noted clinician, Janet has presented for orchestras including the San Francisco Symphony, Utah Symphony, Boston Symphony Orchestra, and at conservatories, conferences and workshops coast to coast.

Fanya Lin

Pianist and DMA Student

She will perform for us and speak on her experiences at Julliard. She will also offer her insights regarding interactive performances and the expansion of contemporary repertoire.

The New York Times described Fanya Lin's playing as "Daunting yet seductive, shimmering sustained tones, punctuated in unison in this dazzlingly persuasive concert" after her performance in Alice Tully Hall.  Fanya was born in Taipei, Taiwan.  In 2015, Fanya graduated from the Juilliard School as a Master's Student, studying with Professor Hung-Kuan Chen and Professor Jerome Lowenthal.  Currently, she is a recipient of Centennial Fellowship and Teaching Assistantship as a Doctoral student at the University of Minnesota under the guidance of Distinguished McKnight Professor Lydia Artymiw.  Fanya as been selected as a top prizewinner in numerous piano competitions.

Erin Winchell

Using Technology in the Private Music Studio

Erin Winchell graduated from Gustavus Adolphus College with a music degree in 2002 and earned a Master of Arts degree in Teaching from Minnesota State University, Mankato in 2010.  Erin has been teaching private music lessons since 2002 and currently teaches music for Minnesota Online High School.  She will be presenting on various ways one can enhance their studio through technology.

Holiday Brunch at Gustavus Adolphus College, from 9:30-11:00 a.m.

Treat yourself and a significant other and guests to a delicious Swedish holiday brunch with special musical performances and a holiday sing-a-long.  We'll be pampered by the Gustavus Adolphus College food service as we meet at the college's Student Center.  Reservations are required.   More information soon!

Jenna Herrig

Young Living Essential Oils in the Piano Studio

Jenna is a 2011 graduate from the University of Minnesota Duluth with a bachelor degree in Early Childhood and Special Education with a minor in Music.  Jenna began using Young Living for her own piano practice, and will be sharing how she incorporates Young Living Essential Oils in her day-to-day life and in her piano studio.

Everyone should read a chapter from this books.  There are many available through MN Link Library system.  We will have a guided discussion on the various chosen chapters.
